Since 1 January 2017, all electric trains operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) in the Netherlands are powered solely by wind energy. Approximately 600 000 commuters transported by NS now travel by rail without leaving a carbon footprint.
To accomplish this, NS partnered with Eneco, a sustainable energy supplier operating in the Netherlands, to use its wind farms to generate the 1.2 billion kWh of electricity per year needed to power their electrical trains. This is the equivalent of the power consumption of all households in Amsterdam in one year.
Those with the least knowledge and skills are least likely to acknowledge that lack.
